Prof. Hesham Marei, DDS (OMFS), MSc, FDS (RCS – Eng.), PhD (Med Edu.), is a distinguished figure in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, currently serving as the Dean of the College of Dentistry at Gulf Medical University, UAE. His academic journey commenced in 1997 at Cairo University, where he later earned his Master's and Doctoral Degrees in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Suez Canal University, Egypt. Prof. Marei further refined his clinical skills at Cardiff Dental School, UK, obtaining a Fellowship in Dental Surgery in 2006 from the esteemed Royal College of Surgeons in London. Passionate about medical education, Prof. Marei expanded his academic portfolio with a Master’s Degree in Medical Education in 2012 and a PhD in Health Professions Education in 2018 from Maastricht University, the Netherlands. His doctoral research focused on innovative applications of computer simulation in dental education. Prior to his current role, Prof. Marei held significant academic and clinical positions in the UK, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, including his most recent post as Associate Professor and Consultant of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University. A prolific researcher, Prof. Marei boasts over 50 publications in renowned journals, exploring diverse areas such as 3D printing in dentistry, the impact of chemotherapy on bone healing, osseointegration of dental implants, virtual patient usage in dental education, and medical professionalism.
